The Walk for Hunger

Donate now. Help us raise the $4 million desperately needed by emergency food programs that are facing steep increases in the cost of food and fuel.

This year, over 40,000 generous supporters braved rainy weather to take part in Project Bread’s 40th Walk for Hunger. Walkers of all ages from a spectrum of economic circumstances participated in this event dedicated to feeding hungry people. They raised an estimated $3.8 million for emergency programs across Massachusetts.

“Today’s rain shows us the true grit of our supporters,” said Ellen Parker, executive director of Project Bread. “But it will also hinder us from raising the $4 million desperately needed by emergency food programs that are facing steep increases in the cost of food and fuel. I urge all who did not walk because of the rain, or who cut their walk short, to go back to their sponsors to collect all their pledges. We cannot allow the state’s hunger safety net to be rained out.”

Walk for Hunger 2008

Achieved:

$3,914,355.24

Goal:

$4,000,000.00

97 percent of goal achieved.

Please note that the amount reflected in this thermometer is based on pledges promised by partipicants on Walk Day. We’re counting on all Walkers and Volunteers to collect their pledges and send them to Project Bread (145 Border Street, East Boston, MA 02128). This is a critical step toward reaching the projected $3.8 million that was announced on Walk Day — money needed to fund hundreds of local food programs in our state.
