Every year, more than 2,000 Volunteers work together to make The Walk for Hunger a fun, safe, and successful event. By volunteering with us at the 49th Walk, you help change lives all over the state for the better.
Volunteer in the morning, the afternoon, or all day – it’s up to you. Whether you are just beginning or continuing your commitment to helping hungry people, we have something for everyone!
Volunteers can fundraise just as Walkers do – every dollar makes a difference. When you raise $500 or more, you become part of the Heart & Sole Circle and receive a special Heart & Sole volunteer t-shirt.
Project Bread is grateful to all of our volunteers and our staff is happy to validate volunteer hours on Walk Day. Please bring your volunteer service form to the Volunteer Tent on the Boston Common or to the Volunteer Tent located at Arsenal Park in Watertown.
If you are seeking credit for volunteer hours, please understand that the Walk for Hunger & 5K Run is a fundraising event. Please consider your contribution to all of the organizations who depend on funds raised through this event. Your time is important but we're counting on you to help us reach our fundraising goal.
Walkers and runners will need to visit a Check-In Tent on Walk Morning before crossing the starting lines. Our check-in volunteers will collect any day-of donations being turned in and will provide participants with a Walk Day Guide, Walk Button, and Walk Sticker. You will help kick off their entire Walk experience!
We need smiling faces to keep Walkers safe and happy by directing them along the Walk route. They are placed strategically throughout the Walk route and help keep our Walkers safe and on the right track!
Course Monitor Manuals:
Are you friendly and organized? Walkers need water, encouragement, and their Walk Map stamped/stickered at checkpoints along the Walk Route –and we need you to make this possible! There are nine checkpoints along the Walk Route.

Calling all shutterbugs – we need your help to capture the spirit, energy, fun and beautiful moments of the 49th Walk for Hunger. These photos will be used online, for future marketing, as well as submitted for day-after Walk press.
20 miles is a long way to walk, and our Walkers look forward to entertainment along the route! We have had different forms of entertainment over they years: music of all forms, dancers, cheerleading squads, drummers, and many more. Lend your talent to help make the 49th Walk for Hunger a fun experience for everyone.
Are you a nurse, doctor, or EMT? Help keep our Walkers and Runners safe and healthy by administering basic first aid on the Boston Common and at each of the nine checkpoints along the route.

The 5K Run needs volunteers to help make the race a success! Volunteer roles include helping at the starting line to organize runners, cheering them along the way while passing out water at the two water stops along the course, and helping at the finish line and post-race 5K food and beverage tent.
