Project Bread – The Walk for Hunger, Inc. Announces New President

Project Bread's Board of Directors Appoints Erin McAleer to Lead the Organization

Boston, MA – Project Bread, a pioneer of innovative programs and initiatives designed to eradicate hunger in Massachusetts, today announced the appointment of Erin McAleer as its next president. According to the national search firm managed by the Project Bread Board of Directors, talented individuals from across the country applied for the leadership role.

“Erin’s extraordinary background has been shaped by a social work framework and an unwavering commitment to social justice.  That, coupled with her unique experiences in public policy and advocacy, will bring a compassionate and innovative perspective to Project Bread,” said Project Bread’s Chairman of the Board, Dr. Ronald E. Kleinman. “Her passion for our mission and strength in strategic and operational leadership, coalition building, and organizational growth experience is exactly what Project Bread needs to continue its success in bringing more supportive services to our community.”

When asked about Erin, Alan Khazei, Founder and CEO of Be The Change, Inc., said “Having worked closely with Erin, I can attest to her strong leadership skills. She is both a visionary capable of developing strategy and a manager able to implement innovative solutions and assess their impact. She is passionate about Project Bread's approach to ending hunger, and the right choice to lead the organization into its next phase, forging new partnerships and strengthening the anti-hunger movement.”

In her new role as president, Erin will be focused on building upon Project Bread’s legacy of innovative programming to develop new community-informed strategies that affect change. She will identify where and how to create large-scale change, whether through grassroots engagement and movement building, bringing together organizations to work collaboratively and strategically, policy advocacy, or taking to scale impactful programs. She will also oversee Project Bread’s 50th Walk for Hunger, held in May of 2018.

“I have long been impressed with Project Bread’s systems change approach, and am excited about the opportunity to ensure that the organization continues to be impactful, innovative, and strategic, with a statewide focus,” said Erin McAleer. “We know that no single organization can do this work alone. We will cultivate existing partnerships while developing new ones, and continue to leverage the grassroots engagement of individuals, all towards the ultimate goal of reducing hunger and food insecurity here in Massachusetts.”

Prior to Project Bread, Erin worked for Be The Change, Inc. as Director of Opportunity Boston, an initiative focused on developing a comprehensive strategy to improve opportunity for children living in poverty in Boston. She was a senior member of Governor Deval Patrick’s team, serving as Director of Cabinet Affairs; has also served as Legislative Director for the Executive Office of Health and Human Services; Chief of Staff at the Department of Transitional Assistance; Senior Associate and Government Affairs Consultant at Charles Group Consulting; Fiscal Policy Analyst in the Executive Office of Administration & Finance; and Research Analyst for State Legislature’s Joint Committee on Mental Health and Substance Abuse.

She received her MSW from Boston College and her B.A. in History from the College of the Holy Cross.
