Ensuring Immigrant Families Can Access Benefits

(H.R. 5227/S. 4311)

LIFT the BAR Act of 2021

What this Bill Does

Eliminates the five-year waiting period for lawfully present immigrants who are otherwise eligible to enroll in federal public benefit programs such as SNAP.

Why this matters

This would give families equitable access to critical nutrition and health care resources that they are forced to wait years to access, which can lead to issues such as food insecurity and delayed medical care.
