Our impact in Massachusetts
Project Bread’s work to end food insecurity in Massachusetts makes a real difference. Together with kids and families, organizational partners, and legislators, we’re expanding access to food and challenging systems of inequity. Below are just a few of the ways our work has made a real difference.
Project Bread worked with legislators and partners to pass Breakfast After the Bell legislation so 150,000 more kids in Massachusetts can access a healthy school breakfast. Kids learn best when they start the day with good food!
Whether providing emergency grants to school meal sites, or answering over 40,000 calls to our FoodSource Hotline, or advocating for emergency increases in nutrition benefits, Project Bread has helped people in Massachusetts continue to access and afford food during the crisis.
Project Bread’s research on hunger in East Boston and across the state found inequity tied to a disproportionately high rate of food insecurity experienced in Latinx communities. Ending hunger means ending racism and economic injustice.
