Child Nutrition Outreach Coordinator (Part-time)

To assist us in meeting our mission, Project Bread – The Walk for Hunger is seeking a part-time Child Nutrition Outreach Coordinator to join our team.

The Role:

The Child Nutrition Outreach Coordinator serves as a member of Project Bread’s Child Nutrition Outreach Program (CNOP) team, supporting the Assistant Director of Child Nutrition in outreach efforts to expand participation in school breakfast and Summer Eats programs in communities throughout Eastern Massachusetts. CNOP’s goal is the help local stakeholders improve access to quality school and summer meals for children in their communities. The Outreach Coordinator is a part-time position working approximately 25 hours per week and reports to the Assistant Director of Child Nutrition, who has overall responsibility for the outreach to Eastern Massachusetts communities.

  • Partner with and assist the Assistant Director of Child Nutrition with the following (for Eastern MA):
  • Provide support to Assistant Director of Child Nutrition in efforts to increase participation and program improvement for School Breakfast and Summer Eats programs, including outreach, technical assistance and promotion, with a focus on research and reporting
  • Data gathering and community research within Eastern MA to support targeted outreach efforts
  • Assist with weekly, monthly, and annual reporting on deliverables to CNOP team and to Project Bread
  • Maintain up-to-date reporting of progress and key contacts in communities across Eastern  Massachusetts
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of relationships with school districts and community organizations within the Eastern region
  • Special projects – leadership of special projects as assigned by Director or Assistant Director of Child Nutrition. Possible projects include research, data gathering and evaluation, and community initiatives
    • Example: Research targeted communities to identify all key stakeholders and possible collaborative efforts with school food service programs and community based organizations who serve school meals and/or summer meals.


Secondary Responsibilities:

  • Participate in the annual Walk for Hunger, including working as event staff the weekend of the Walk, attending pre-Walk events as assigned, and supporting Walk for Hunger fundraising efforts
  • Participate in organization-wide events and meetings and perform other program duties as assigned
  • Participate in one organizational task force

  • Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred with a minimum of two years of relevant experience (High School diploma/GED will be considered in combination with five years of directly relevant experience)
  • Experience in non-profit or community-based work required, familiarity with school nutrition programs a plus
  • Prior experience in outreach, partnership building, or community organizing
  • Experience conducting outreach or promotion activities, especially within school and community settings
  • Exceptional communications skills
  • Excellent independent judgement and ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong prioritization skills and agility to multi-task and change priorities quickly
  • Significant experience with data collection, analysis and interpretation, and working with large datasets
  • Ability to both think broadly with big picture goals in mind and pay close attention to incremental details and processes
  • Ability to be a self-starter who is comfortable jumping into many different situations and settings
  • Reliable access to a car; travel within Massachusetts is required to visit schools and Summer Eats sites in Eastern Massachusetts (travel is currently on hold due to COVID-19, but will resume when public health and safety allows)


This is a part-time position working approximately 25 hours per week with a competitive salary and with benefits as similarly situated employees.
