Assistant Director, Individual Giving

Supervisor: Senior Director of Development, Individual & Corporate Giving

Salary Range: $75,000 - $80,000

 

The Role: In this newly created role, the Assistant Director, Individual Giving will be instrumental in growing and developing Project Bread’s fundraising from individuals, with a focus on direct mail, mid-level donors, and peer to peer fundraising through the Walk for Hunger. The role will contribute directly to $5.5m in revenue annually from the Walk for Hunger and individual fundraising, 50% of total organizational annual revenue. The Assistant Director, Individual Giving will be a key contributor to department strategy and be a frontline fundraiser, cultivating individuals, families, and peer-to-peer fundraisers. The Assistant Director will also be a member of the cross-functional leadership team, regularly contributing expertise and experience to organization wide strategic initiatives.

Joining a team of 6, the Assistant Director will provide valuable leadership to the fundraising team (with direct oversight of 2 team members). The successful candidate for this role will be an inspiring leader with a passion for system-change to end hunger in Massachusetts.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Work strategically with the Senior Director of Development to evaluate current programs and create and execute new plans and processes for the direct mail, annual giving and peer to peer fundraising campaigns.
  • Engage with key supporters, internally and externally. Includes organization leadership, Board of Directors and Advisory Council, legacy Walk for Hunger participants, vendors and others.
  • As appropriate, prepare well-written materials for donor visits, strategy documents, solicitation proposals. 
  • Work as a part of fundraising team to steward and maintain confidential data, including adding notes and updates to the database regularly and collaborating to develop and improve reporting.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across the organization to maximize donor engagement and philanthropic commitment.
  • Engage with the Programs and Policy teams to support effective communication of organizational value and impact.
  • Represent Project Bread effectively in public, formally and informally, with a focus on expanding our network of community and philanthropic connections.
  • Support and manage the individual giving team (including manager and associate), in a culture of professional development and growth.   

 

Qualifications:

  • Commitment to and enthusiasm for Project Bread’s mission and approach
  • Exemplary communication skills
  • 5-8 years fundraising experience, including demonstrated success directly soliciting and securing gifts from individuals
  • Experience managing direct reports
  • Attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Strong donor service and stewardship ethic
  • Discretion, good judgment, and commitment to confidentiality of donor and organization data
  • Experience and understanding of RE NXT a plus
  • Although it is not required for this position, the ability to speak multiple languages is viewed as a significant asset

 

The Project Bread office is located in East Boston and this position is designed to be in the office two days a week, with additional days as needed throughout the year (specifically leading up to and including the weekend of Project Bread’s Walk for Hunger, the first Sunday in May).
