Continuing our tour through the "Summer of Yum," Project Bread brought Assistant Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives Katherine Clark, state legislators, DESE, and USDA together to promote Summer Eats in Malden.

On Monday, our team beat out the stormy weather for a late morning visit to MacDonald Stadium where the Malden Public Schools Food Truck made the first stop of its daily rounds. The Malden Food Truck makes four stops, Monday through Friday, around Malden to distribute Summer Eats meals to kids and teens!

Summer Eats provides free meals for kids and teens at hundreds of sites across Massachusetts. Participating partners, including Malden Public Schools and the Mystic Valley YMCA, help to fund meal sites, which provide anyone under the age of 18 with a free meal a day at Summer Eats locations.

During the event, kids and teens ran over from the Malden recreation sports clinic and families brought children from the neighborhood to receive free lunch, a hot chicken sandwich, serviced by school nutrition staff. Congresswoman Clark and other attendees joined in serving meals to the dozens of children and teens at the site.

“It is unacceptable for anyone in this country – especially our children – to go hungry. I was honored to join Project Bread today to bring awareness to Summer Eats and their incredible work providing lunch to children and their families during the summer months," said Assistant Speaker Clark.

Assistant Speaker Clark continues, "As Americans continue to recover from the pandemic, Democrats are working every day in Washington to lower costs for families and provide immediate solutions to those need, including free meals for students in need.”

We were proud to see a strong contingent of state legislative support for Summer Eats and to be able to support our Malden Public Schools partners preparing meals and feeding kids each day!
