Patrick's 5th and Final Walk for Hunger!
Hi everone!
On Sunday, May 2nd, I will be participating in Project Bread's 2010 Walk for Hunger. I hope that you will support me in my efforts to raise money to help end hunger in Massachusetts!
This will be my 5th Walk for Hunger, having jumped on board shortly after arriving in Boston in 2006. Unfortunately, it will likely be my last as I am moving from Boston in a few months! :(
However, I'm fully dedicated to the Walk this year! I was extremely fortunate to have a group of friends and family that donated over $3,000 last year, but I am hoping to blow that away this year, and have set a goal of $6,000! As was the case in past years, I will be matching a portion of all donations. I matched 50% in 2006, 60% in 2007, all the way up to 80% last year. I'm rounding up this year, and will match 100% of all donations! So if you give $50, it's like you're really giving $100!
One final note that will hopefully encourage you to give an extra few dollars. I will actually be in California 7 hours before the Walk starts! I'll be boarding a red eye, flying to Boston, catching a cab to the Commons, storing my luggage, and heading out for a 20-mile stroll. Surely that deserves a few extra dollars, right?!
Why am I walking? I'm walking because many Massachusetts families are seeing their monthly income stretched beyond capacity. They are forced to go without food in order to pay their rent, utility, and medical bills. The money that I raise by walking as much as I can of the 20-mile route will directly help hungry people. Funds raised through the Walk support more than 400 emergency food programs in 135 communities statewide.
Who is hungry? Hunger affects more than 554,000 people in Massachusetts, including the state?s most vulnerable citizens ? children, the elderly, the disabled, and the unemployed.
Hunger also affects the working poor, who use more and more of their income to pay rent, heating oil, medical care, and childcare. Both children and the elderly are disproportionately represented at emergency food programs funded by Project Bread. In low-income communities throughout the state, one child in three lives in a family that struggles to put food on the table.
Please donate to my Walk to help me make a difference and reach my personal fundraising goal. Thank you for your support of me and of hungry people.
Together we CAN make a difference!
