Ending Hunger
The best solution to a public health problem is prevention - and hunger should not be an exception to that rule.
Although food pantries and soup kitchens provide critical relief, they were never intended to make up for constant food shortages in our neighbors' households.
Research shows that the key to preventing hunger is to make better use of federal nutrition programs like School Breakfast, Summer Food Service Programs, and Food Stamps.
By increasing access to nutritious food for thousands of struggling families, hunger prevention can decrease the demand for emergency food in Massachusetts. And most importantly, hunger prevention will improve nutrition and ensure a healthier future for our most vulnerable children and families.
