This year, 42,000 Walkers and 2,000 Volunteers took part in the 2010
Walk for Hunger. Together, we raised $3.8 million for emergency food
programs in Massachusetts. We couldn’t have done it without you! Thank
you for contributing your time and energy to keep our Walkers safe,
motivated, and hydrated along the route! Your support was an inspiration
to us all.
If you need verification of your community service hours, please
download a 2010 Community Service Form, and send it to: Project Bread - The Walk for Hunger, 145 Border
Street, East Boston, MA 02128-1903. Our Volunteer Coordinator will sign
it and mail/fax it back to you as soon as possible.
The Walk is over, but you can still help!
As you
know, Project Bread uses the money raised through The Walk for Hunger
to fund over 400 soup kitchens, food pantries, food banks, and salvage
programs in 128 communities across Massachusetts. Many of these programs
rely on Volunteers year-round to help with tasks such as sorting
donated goods, distributing bags of groceries, and serving hot meals.
Continue
your commitment to ending hunger in Massachusetts by lending a hand at a
local food program, planning a food drive, donating goods, or helping
Project Bread raise funds.

Plan a food drive.
Organizing
a food drive is a great way to get your friends, classmates, or
co-workers involved in alleviating hunger by supporting a local food
program. The best foods to collect are non-perishable goods that will
provide nutrition from each food group. For more information on the
types of food to collect, download the USDA flyer "Balance your Gift."
To find a
food pantry near you where you can bring goods, call our Volunteer
Hotline at 617-239-2546 or email volunteer@projectbread.org.
Donate goods to an emergency food program.
Do
you work at a store or restaurant and have a large supply of food that
you want to give away? While all food programs accept non-perishable
goods, some soup kitchens and other programs are able to take perishable
goods as well.
To find a food pantry or soup kitchen near you,
call our Volunteer Hotline at 617-239-2546 or email volunteer@projectbread.org.
