Directions and Road Closings

Get ready to Walk!

Take the MBTA logo to Park Street! The MBTA provides FREE RIDES to anyone traveling with a Walk Guide or online registration certificate between 6:00 and 9:00 A.M. on Walk Day. To see schedules and parking information, please visit the MBTA website.

Road Closings

The following road closings will be in effect on Sunday, May 4, 2008:

BOSTON

Charles Street, between Boylston and Beacon Streets, will be closed to vehicular traffic from 6 A.M. - 6 P.M.  Parking on Charles Street will also be restricted. In addition, Boylston Street east and westbound feeding into Charles Street will be closed. Traffic on Charles Street South will be diverted to Park Square.

Commonwealth Avenue outbound, from Arlington Street through Kenmore Square, will be closed from 6 A.M. - 11 A.M.  Traffic will be diverted at streets (including Charlesgate East and West) leading to Commonwealth. Traffic on Commonwealth inbound at Kenmore Square will also be diverted.

Arlington Street, between Beacon and Commonwealth Avenue, will be closed from 6 A.M. - 11 A.M. 

Beacon Street between Charles Street and Arlington Street, and also outbound from Kenmore Square, Boston, to Carlton Street, Brookline, will be closed from 7 A.M. - noon.  Traffic at the intersection of Beacon and Park Drive will be diverted from 7 A.M. - noon.

Expect traffic delays at Cleveland Circle and along Beacon Street near the reservoir from 7 A.M. - 1 P.M.

Delays expected at the intersection of Soldiers Field Road and North Beacon Street where walkers cross the river from 8:30 A.M. - 4 P.M.

Drivers are asked to use extreme caution on Massachusetts Avenue at the intersection with Commonwealth Avenue where walkers will be crossing from 11 A.M. - 7 P.M.

Expect delays along Commonwealth Avenue from Hereford to Arlington Streets from 11 A.M. - 7 P.M.

 

BROOKLINE

Beacon Street outbound will be closed between St. Mary's and Carlton Streets from
7 A.M. - noon. Parking on Beacon Street outbound will be restricted.

Delays can be expected along Beacon Street from Carlton Street to Ayr Road from
7 A.M. - noon.

NEWTON

Expect traffic delays and diversions along Beacon Street from Boston College to Newton Centre from 7 A.M. - 3 P.M.

Langley Road, between Beacon and Centre Streets, will be closed to vehicular traffic from 7 A.M. - 3 P.M. Expect traffic delays and diversions at intersecting streets.

Traffic delays and diversions on Centre Street, from Langley Road to Newton Corner, from 7 A.M. - 3 P.M. Traffic will be diverted at most intersecting streets.

Drivers are asked to use extreme caution at Newton Corner from 7 A.M. - 4 P.M. when walkers will be crossing over to the St. James Street bridge and Charlesbank Road.

St. James Street and Charlesbank Road will be closed from 7 A.M. - 4 P.M. Traffic will be diverted to Park or Washington Streets.

Note: Nonantum road will be closed from Watertown Square to Brook Street.

WATERTOWN

Delays expected at North Beacon Street Bridge from 8:30 A.M. - 4 P.M. 

Greenough Boulevard (sometimes referred to as Charles River Road) between North Beacon and Arsenal Streets will be closed to vehicular traffic from 8:30 A.M. - 4 P.M.

Drivers are asked to use extreme caution on Arsenal Street at the intersection of Greenough Boulevard where walkers will cross from 8:30 A.M. - 4 P.M.

Greenough Boulevard, westbound to Cambridge, will be closed from 8:30 A.M. - 4 P.M. Traffic will be diverted at intersecting roads.

CAMBRIDGE

Expect delays at the Eliot Bridge and the Cambridge Boat Club from 9:30 A.M. - 5:30 P.M.

Memorial Drive, between Fresh Pond Parkway and Western Avenue, will be closed to vehicular traffic at 9 A.M., two hours earlier than the usual Sunday closing schedule.

Expect slow moving traffic on Memorial Drive from Western to Massachusetts Avenues from 9:30 A.M. - 5:30 P.M.

Expect delays on the Harvard Bridge inbound to Boston from 9:30 A.M. - 5:30 P.M.
